An anti-SPAM SPAM scam

This black-hat SEO tactic is too good not to out; the first time it popped into my Inbox I ignored it, but the second time...? Well, here you go:

Larson Eric

Dear Larson Eric:

We have learned that unauthorized individual(s) secured a link promoting our website [their redacted site].com on one or more of your web properties.

The links were placed purely for SEO purposes, with the intention of manipulating search rankings, something that we do not approve.

The presence of these links is harmful to our site's good standing with search engines, and unfortunately, retaining them may also be potentially harmful to your own website's reputation.

We would ask that you please remove any links on your site that link to [their redacted site].com
So far as we are aware, there are (or have been) links at these URLs:
http://[my redacted site].com/tag/
padded-adjustable-piano-bench/feed

We would greatly appreciate your help with resolving this problem.

You can also let us know once the links to [their redacted site].com have been removed by return email.

If you need any more information from us, please email me and I will be happy to assist.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and do appreciate your help.

Sincerely,

[their redacted signature]

Hard though it may be to believe, I don't have a site with a "tag" related to piano benches.  (I'm sure the adjustable piano bench industry is an excellent one in which I could engage, but I've not seen fit to prioritize my adjustable piano bench desires and needs at this time.  Padded or otherwise.)

In fact, this URL is one that's parked at GoDaddy on behalf of someone else, and it doesn't have any subpages or directories of any kind.

But how many webmasters who received an email like this would visit their site and/or send the requested email back, thus validating their return email address for future SPAMming?

So... this person is resorting to an SEO scam in the name of "preventing" an SEO scam.  Not unlike the malware that claims to be an anti-malware program that can "clean" your computer for only 30 bucks.

Fascinating...
